Comprising a ground floor plus a 50-storey residential tower with an associated multi-storey car park, the striking Chelsea Tower is made up of 282 one-, two- and three bedroom apartments distributed over 49 floors. The roof of the car park building houses a 25m long swimming pool, a gymnasium, squash courts and changing rooms.
The plan form is essentially a square with two corners linked via the central core to form a diagonal structural spine. The white spine connects, forming a perfect square opening that frames the sky. At its centre is suspended a 40m high needle which reaches a height of 251m.
The corner elements of the structural spine extend above the roof and bridge across to support a majestic, 40 metre tall suspended ‘needle’ above the central core, taking the building height to 251m. The lighter elements of the tower are clad in grey/blue glass and white aluminium panels divided vertically into three sections.
